I think this is the main thing people get confused about when talking about playing with freedom, you don't just flop around your instrument just because it feels free and without tension, you actually need to create tension and learn how to release it in order to create a controlled and beautiful sound.

Your ability to switch between, I guess, emotions? is really expressive and shows how much of a master of the instrument you are. The first raw and emotional example is very "rock concert" and would feel more natural with a cathartic metal genre accompaniment, but the more technically perfect and stoic second example is definitely more beautiful and definitely more what we expect from violin solos.

Ok but that first loose style would be beautiful if it was used as a motif for someone slowly going crazy. Starts controlled and slowly loses touch

I don't play violin. But more and more I've found (As I had with penmanship, leatherworking, knife sharpening, striking, and kitchen cutlery use) that moving your wrist is the enemy of precision in endeavors that require fine motor control to do well at. Rather it seems like it's almost always better when a motion of the hand comes from the movement of the elbow and shoulder alone.

Does tilting the bow so not all of the horsehair contacts the strings a technique I’m missing? Thank you

Maybe I am totally wrong but the accented up stroke in the e string sounds slightly off maybe it's the key its written in or it might call for true intonation instead of equal tempered, just seemed slightly off.

I tried to learn the cello. I could never even get the bow to catch on the string at all. It's very difficult. Or else the bow was defective; I have no idea.

So what you're saying is that violinists are just the ballet people of instrumentalist musicians?
