Carson's Ribs and Steaks - 'The Place For Ribs' (Commercial, 1981)

Показать описание
Here's a commercial for Carson's Ribs and Steaks (no affiliation with Johnny Carson of "Tonight Show" fame), with your choice of ribs, New York stripped steaks, and cheddary Au Gratins - enough to challenge anyone's appetite.

You know the place has a reputation for good food (and are also possibly hungry) when your mouth starts watering just hearing the name Carson's Ribs and seeing the basted ribs in this commercial.

According to Dean Carson (that's him in the gray suit as the greeter in the beginning of the ad) this commercial used employees and family members as the customers.

Voiceover by Lloyd Hanson.

This aired on local Chicago TV early Sunday, November 8th 1981 during the 1:30am to 3:30am timeframe.

Had my last high school date at the Carson's on Clark & Ridge before it shut down for good. Duk's, Kokomo cafe, so many old haunts exorcized by time.

Looks like one is still open, at 465 E. Illinois.

In the 80s we'd to go to the Skokie location after Cubs games, they were right by the train station. The combo of ribs and those cheddary au gratins was the BOMB!

Wow, the second I saw this I figured the place must be long gone. Nice to see it isn't. If I find myself in Chicago again I need to try it.

There _was_ a restaurant affiliated with Johnny Carson, it was called "Here's Johnny's." The only location I know of was on 72nd Street in Omaha, NE. I don't think it made it out of the 1960s.

My wife and I had a list of things to do before moving away from Chicago and somehow, going to Carson's didn't make the list. I'm bummed about that.

How I regret not having a meal at Carson's. Now they're just another fond Chicago memory.
