Great video, I've been camping for a long time and I can tell you that all of this is spot on. I started my wife camping last year and the first things I told her was to NEVER take food in the tent, and always keep the door zipped shut. This is great stuff, I love camping and enjoy hearing from other campers.

My addition is not forgetting the can opener. I had to use my hunting knife, not really safe but I survived. Never forgot it since.

**New Subscriber** Thanks so much for this value added, non judgemental video! I feel like so many intro camper videos assume we should all just *know* things.

I have a Silky folding saw that fits in my pocket. It is awesome! I do not go in the woods without it, not even the woods in my backyard. I have a small knife for little jobs and 2 bigger ones (I only take one of those at one time). One is the Schrade SCHF37 (7" blade) and the other is my bigger chopper, the Schrade SCHF45 (10" blade). The one I take depends on where I'm going and what I'm planning to do. I always have my small knife which is Morakniv Companion in the woods. I always like to have one of the 2 bigger knives as well.

I'm not much for camp sites. I prefer somewhere I call "public forest". In the woods, away from civilisation, not property, not a park or camp site or provincial park. It's just regular forest where the rules are limited. You can have a campfire, but only need to follow safety rules of having one to avoid a forest fire. You can use whatever is lying around for firewood. You don't have to worry so much about other people showing up. If I was gonna be camping with family or a friend that doesn't like it that way, I'd be okay to go with a camp site, as long as I'm not the one paying for firewood and the entry cost is not too much money, as I don't get alot of money on the Welfare.

Great video. I'm guilty of forgetting the bug repellent. Only ever did that the once. Another to add to your list - a can opener. If you have tinned food you need to be able to actually eat it. Yep, I only did that, the once too lol 😀

Excellent video. The number of times I've been next to that group that hauls a punky wet log out of the woods and smokes you out or ten sites converge to one next to you with loud music like a block party is way to high. #26 for new and old: Be courteous of other people's camping experience. I'm kinda done with state parks but I like having a hot shower at the end of the day!

Wonderful video. My Every Day Carry for wood walks include a small flashlight, lighter, knife and Paracord. A mylar survival blanket also does not take up much space and can be used as an emergency tarp.

A few more things: Don't bring speakers of any sort. This is supposed to be camping and your neighbours do not want you to "share" your music or to be " the life of the party". If you can't bear the sound of nature, wear ear buds. This of course applies to TVs, tablets etc. too. Be quiet.
Also, you may need to go back and forth to your car. Ration out how many times you have to slam the doors closed. Keep the door open until you are sure you are done for a while. And do not do that whoop whoop security thing ever- or at least until bedtime. Once.
Also try your sleeping system at home first. Is that pad comfortable enough or do you need more cush? Don't rely on your more experienced friend to give up their comfort for you at the camp site. They have their mattress and you need your's. Have a full nap on it at home. Everything seems ok for just a few seconds. But half an hour should tell you.

Great advice! I have those issues worked out, but many people need to hear this and it doesn't hurt to get a refresher! Thanks Samantha!

When it comes to dealing with the fire or handling a hot pot/pan, etc, I always have gloves that are great for that. Usually I have gloves that are leather. Good, proper leather gloves has worked great for me so far.

Finally! You are my spirit (camping video animal! I'm on my second watch and am taking notes! Question: About the Ground cloth, I always thought my tarp/ ground cloth should be larger than the foot print of my tent. I'm guessing that your saying the ground cloth should be slightly smaller so moisture doesn't roll in? Thanks for the answer in advance. :) Great Channel!
