For a trawler that is 19 years old, I think it looks amazingly clean. When I saw the engine room at the start, it looked like it was brand new. After watching the whole video I see now how the fish pump keeps all over deck stuff so clean. Nice design.

I'm no tree-hugging conservationist but I can't help to wonder how this is sustainable. Imagine 1 boat, 36 hours, 1850 tons of fish. Now think about how many boats are doing this all over the World.

A whole fishing industry of small fishing boats in the North of Scotland was killed-off so the EU could allow these people to go out with their hi tech vacuum cleaners and suck up huge quantities of fish. Again, I’m not a tree-hugger but I recognize the difference between 5 guys on a fishing boat going into the North Atlantic for 3 days in a 30 ton wooden boat (a smack) and a factory trawler just sucking up massive quantities of meal-fish. Why not just drain the ocean and send out a guy with a dustpan and brush; it would be easier, right?

Let's not forget that Norwegian commercial fishing is highly regulated, and was one of the first countries to have a Ministry of Fisheries.

Chef: "Well guys, dinner's ready".
Crew: "What? Fish again?"

One captain on a ROV vessel told me working in the north sesa one km into UK, no fish, but on Norwegian side the fish blocked the view of the ROV. Its the lack of regulations that empteis the ocean, not the size of the vessel.

An excellent doco, well presented, great music and well filmed. Sure there could be problems in the future but this video is a testament to how its done. There are strict quotas involved, shorter seasons etc. We have the same system here in New Zealand and woe betide you if you break the rules. We certainly need feeding as do our pets so if this isnt done on this scale are you or your pets going to go doubt it. Well done Fishking Vike

Crazy how the boat spends more time getting there then it does to load up and go home.

Frighteningly efficient; incredible technology; the boat's 'workings' look more like an engineering lab; the crew quarters / galley would not be out of place in a modest **** Hotel. Incredible to see (thanks for sharing) but scary to contemplate...the potential consequences such efficiencies bring.

My oh my how fishing has changed ....does this deplete our oceans? Can the Whiting reproduce that fast? What is Blue Whiting used in? I have never seen it on a menu...

I don't mind large scale fishing for human consumption but when it is mainly for fiahmeal for animal feed that would not normally eat whiting, then it's wrong.

They should ban the use of sonar, that would sort the good skippers from the bad and give the fish a chance.
