Brighter Shores is a brand new MMORPG developed by Runescape creator Andrew Gower, like Runescape this is a point and click adventure game with a focus on skilling, exploration and long quests that feature puzzles, multiple dialogue options and self-contained stories.
Brighter Shores is available on Steam Early access now with the first 2 chapters being free to play and chapters 3 onwards requiring a subscription, that being said the first 2 chapters contain more than enough content to help you decide if this is a game for you or not so you’ve got nothing to lose in giving the game a try.

What do you think about Brighter Shores so far with the early access launch? do you think this game has potential to be a good MMORPG? what do you think needs to be improved? let me know in the comments below!

Brighter Shores MMO Steam Description

Brighter Shores is an all new adventure from award winning MMORPG designer Andrew Gower. Explore a land of magic and mysteries, with a huge number of professions to try, and something new to find around every corner. Brighter Shores features an ongoing story and hundreds of hours of gameplay.

As the newest recruit in the Hopeport town guard, you are looking to make a name for yourself. This soon turns out to be a more challenging role than you had anticipated, with a strange storm raging over the harbor and unrest from the local goblins.

You will discover powerful magic sources and become one of the legendary classes of old: Cryoknight, Guardian or Hammermage. Which is fortunate, because something is corrupting the deepest reaches of the nearby Hopeforest, and only through the strength of your new-found powers will you be able to deal with it.

Learn a diverse range of professions, such as Fisher, Forager, Chef.
Woodcutter, Miner, Alchemist
Stonemason, Merchant, Blacksmith, and many more!

Encounter a huge variety of fantastical foes over the course of your adventures.

The game will be constantly expanding, with new content being released in an episodic format. Each episode features its own unique side quests, professions and lands, as well as advancing the central story.

There are hours and hours of content you can play for free. However, if you want more stories, professions and places to explore, you can buy a Premium Pass. A Premium Pass gives you many benefits, including access to all released episodes:

Never be afraid of being 'negative' if that's how you feel! Your grounded pessimistic realism is why I watch you and it's refreshing to hear someone not pussyfoot around how they feel about games

I tried to say "this guy is kicking my butt" when fighting an enemy and the game scolded me for being inappropriate...

Despite unfavorable reviews, this game has a certain allure; it's really lovely, and the way the rooms are laid up is kind of fascinating.

I went into the game expecting it to play like an early access mmo developed by 8 people. And that's exactly what I got lol. It needs ALOT of work but I think there's potential. The sound design is 10/10. Cozy is the right word to describe my time playing before I get bored after about an hour.

Let's be honest. This game would already be buried if it wasn't connected to Gower.

This game made me give RS3 a proper go, and now I am enjoying RS3 after being an OSRS fan for such a long time

Thanks for the video mate, I felt similarly about a lot of the stuff you picked up on. However I'm encouraged by the fact they've already patched some of this stuff after player feedback. I'm enjoying the game so far and am hopeful that it's laid the foundations or greatness - but we'll see!

"If the game's not fun in the first 10 hours..." - exactly, if you're not having fun then don't play it, maybe you'll like it in future after improvements / more content, or maybe it's just not the game for you, which is completely valid!

"Skilling for the sake of skilling" is basically the runescape at launch. Turns out that Andrew Gower just made the exact same shit he made 30 years ago, and surprise surprise it doesn't really work anymore.

I felt about the same after my first day playing BS (on release day) but then...
I woke up thinking about it.
And now I'm ALL over it. It really opens up as you move forward, but if the draw of getting some Fancy Capes and such won't push you forward, skip it for something more your flavor.
It's 8/10 for what it is, and could be a 9.5/10 by the time Ep5, 6, yadda, are released.

Can you please cover Dofus . They are releasing Dofus 3.0 this December. Game is 20 years old and still rolling strong with monthly subscribers.

I feel like this game is either you love it or hate it. I have played RuneScape (now osrs) most of my life and I cancelled my membership cause I can’t stop playing brighter shores.

I do not think anyone is wrong if they don’t like this game. But I also don’t think it’s trying to be for everyone. It’s Andrew’s passion project. And while he will try to make it as good as possible with content and QoL updates I don’t think he is worried about it being a huge success. He just wants to make enough to be able to keep developing on it and when I play I can feel that love and passion for it that is just lost in modern games.

Great video! I love watching peoples brighter shores videos positive or negative!

"I never really thought my character was getting stronger despite getting armor and weapons"
Such is usually the case with level scaling in MMORPGs, if you still feel the same in combat despite having better equipment, having more abilities, and higher stats, then what is the point of having the standard leveling system?

My expectations were low and the game still managed to disappoint me

It's easy to forget that Brighter shores is a brand new early access title - it hasn't had 20 years of iteration and feedback like Runescape has. I wouldn't write it off *just* yet, might be worth coming back to

I played RS as soon as it came out and was 2D. I feel like I’m getting in on Brighter Shores while it’s in its infancy and I’m excited to keep playing and be around to watch it get better over time.

I like the passive xp you can get when your not playing. It really makes getting to lvl 500 in a skill more reasonable.

honestly, as someone who never got into runescape, this at least feels more modern, even if it is a bit clunky.
haven't played it a ton, but it is a nice chill game to relax with. idk.
i appreciate the coverage even if we disagree, its why Ive always liked your videos.

I like the game for a lot of the reasons you don't. the simplicity is refreshing as someone who was always significantly behind the curve in terms of runescape content. I like the graphics as well. the biggest negative is the "starting over" when you go from one episode to the next. I'm sure there's a way to make that work but right now it seems pretty shit.
