Please take some time to watch my other videos comparing these two cameras and then I am happy to answer specific questions you might have.

I think I saw some of the same samples and I really wonder why the difference. It was pretty clearly different with the D5200 winning. You might want to read my review that is now up - link is above D5200 vs t4i. Happy to answer any question since I have both cameras sitting here.

I have seen that video too - no idea what they did but their results don't seem to match mine or other reviewers I have talked to. In both video and photo in low light there is a noticeable difference with the D5200 producing cleaner video and maintaining better dynamic range at higher ISOs

I am sorry I didn't see this comment before. The 18-135 STM provides silent autofocus - you can use it continuously with the T4i. The 18-55 you can use continuously but makes noise that the camera mic picks up and is not well suited for autofocus during video.

In some situations I too was surprised how noisy but as another commenter pointed out - 6400 ISO is pretty rough with either camera and at the lower ISOs there is less noise but in general the D5200 does out perform the 650D.

haha that was probably me :) I have found the D5200 quirky. The lack of aperture control during live view is annoying, not a deal break but annoying. During my initial review I also could not figure out how to get live view exposure simulation- figured it out now :) It also hesitates just a tiny fraction now and then and I don't see that with the T4i. Now all that said it does produce some excellent low light/high iso video. Happy to answer more questions.

Its a great question and I don't have the answer. I have shot more video since and still images and it is clear in lower light that the D5200 does a better job - less noise and maintains a wider dynamic range.

I do. But I still end up recommending the Canon for many folks because 1 - the quirks of the nikon are annoying 2- the kit lens is terrible and until I switched lenses Canon looked better in every shot. After I switched to better nikon lenses Canon still looked good in daylight/scenery shots 3- the 18-135 stm lens with the t5i is a wonderful easy to use lens. Now there are a subset of people that I think the D5200 is right for- but there aren't many.

With both cameras you have full control over exposure. In Manual mode you set your shutter speed, aperture and ISO and it stays. If you already have nikon lenses the D5200 would be my pick for you.

I have several more videos comparing these two cameras. One is not better than the other, they both offer strengths and weaknesses. Right now I believe the T4i with 18-135 STM offers a very good value and user friendly camera for beginners but it depends on your needs. Watch my other videos and leave me a message on my facebook page about how you plan to photography/video and I can give you some additional recommendations.

I have seen that. I don't know how they achieved those results but my difference and supported by other reviews show the D5200 does better in low light - less noise and dynamic range is better.

I like the 650D for beginners - the touchscreen makes it quite user friendly. D5200 does provide better quality, especially in lower light. Are you in the US? prices have gone up for 650D so it isn't quite the bargain it was. I still think the 650D is the right camera for many but happy to chat more and help you decide.

I have watched all your videos related to D5200 vs T4i. Splendid Job indeed. :)

I'm looking forward to buy my first DSLR camera. I have noticed D5200 has a much better photo quality. But as a beginner I want to experiment more. If I can't see the effects of the changes I'm making, I can't learn anything. As you said "my initial review I also could not figure out how to get live view exposure simulation- figured it out now." Do share the trick and please guide if I'll be able to experiment more.

nope ditched that lens. Using the 40mm f/2.8. Lovely little macro lens, will have more about that lens soon.

Did you upgraded from a D5100? How would you compare it's video quality? Would you say it's worth the extra bucks? I saw your video and have to say it looks great!

Sorry I missed this comment last week. Did you go with Canon? Was trying to follow the interesting conversation between you and reptile. I am happy to answer any questions.

Watch it at 1080P and I think you will see some differences with the Nikon being a good bit cleaner at the higher ISOs

First mini rant against snapsort- they get things wrong so often, that bulleted list they use has misleading items for every popular camera, it is really frustrating. On the score of image quality though they usually are close to correct. The nikon sensor is better than the Canon sensor and you really see it in low light. in good light the two look very similar and on the video side in day to day shots I prefer the Canon look.
