A masterpiece. My mother didn't like it, even if she has always been a fine movie addicted. as I think she jugdged it in his mere violence cut; but this is about life, and yes, violence and stupid ostination do have their odd presence. This story is about peace, told through the rhyme of its opposite; and it also has a so mellow sadness, a nostalgic quiet... so beautiful. Thanks

I saw it as a teenager when it came out, I remember most of the audience stayed put until the last credit, . A timeless masterpiece, I really must buy a copy.

.An unsung masterpeice of cinema. From the opening scene when you can feel the damp dawn air. One could freeze-frame almost anywhere, cut it out and frame it. Such incredible camera work.
My favourite film of all time topped off with a soundtrack of immense beauty by Howard Blake.

I hadn’t realized the music in the film was Howard Blake, most famous for his music in the animated film The Snowman and most particularly the song “Walking in the Air” which has been covered by opera, pop, and rock performers. Mr. Blake is a genius.
