Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Plus vs Ultra | Side-by-side comparison

Comparing Samsung's new Galaxy S20 versus the Ultra and Plus models, to see which 2020 flagship phone is best for you. Here's how they stack up for specs, camera tech, design, performance, 5G smarts and all the other important stuff.

At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung showed off its latest trio of smartphones. The 6.2-inch S20 is considerably more compact than its siblings but still packs most of the S20+ smarts, including a 64MP telephoto camera lens with 30x Space Zoom and 8K video recording. That said, the Ultra is the real boss with its 108MP primary camera and 100x Space Zoom.

All three Galaxy S20 handsets boast Dynamic AMOLED screens with 120Hz refresh rate, although the headphone jack has been culled. You get Samsung's One UI launcher version 2.0 on top of Android 10, complete with the best features like Dark Mode and gesture navigation.

All three are almost tied for performance, with the same Exynos chipset on board - although the Plus and Ultra boast more RAM. The S20+ and Ultra also have bigger batteries, while all three support wireless charging.

Why I will buy the S20+ over the Ultra
1. The shots on the 108 MP are not substantially better than the 12 MP default. I had to pinch zoom the photo to see any difference and even then it is not obvious. Mind you on the Ultra you have to select either 108 MP (high res but not that good in low light) or 12 MP (lower res but better in low light). On S20 there is only 1 option take it or leave it. The 108 mp shots also consume 10x more space, around 25 mb each photo!
2. For most practical purposes, 3x zoom is more than enough.
3. Easier to handle and much lighter.
4. $200 cheaper, i can use it to buy accessories or even upgrade the storage to 512 GB!
5. The camera set up at the back is so huge that my finger at the back frequently bumps to it. Try it at the store.
For extra $200 you will get extra 500 mAh battery, better zoom, slightly better main camera. For my type of user it is hardly worth it.

Frankly I would get the small S20 if it came with the galaxy buds pre order bonus! The size is perfect as it is.

Price is way too high considering we get the lower grade Exynos processor in the UK. Should be discounted by a couple of hundred quid for that alone IMO.

Exynos👎(Everywhere else in the world gets the better Qualcomm 865). Too expensive considering the great value flagship killers around. I would consider Oppp, Realme and Oneplus if you want value, great specs and save over £600 or more. (Use the savings to buy a new XBOX X or playstation 5).

Something to note about 5G: the S20 (5G) does not include support for mmWave, which is easily twice as fast as sub-6 GHz. (Though has less range.)
If you want the full speeds of 5G, I'd consider the S20 Plus or Ultra.
