Administering a Mini-Mental Status Exam

This video demonstrates how to administer a mini-mental status exam in a counseling setting.

The mini mental seems relatively simple to administer. I appreciate how consistent Dr. Grande keeps his voice and tone while asking the questions. I know that is an area I will need to work on.

This video clearly demonstrated how to administer a mini-mental status exam. Although I had previous practice administering this in class, it was helpful to see Dr. Grande demonstrate the process and provide clear instruction.

pretty sure he made a mistake, when you give instructions (fold paper and place on the floor) i believe you are supposed to give all the instructions at once and get them to follow the sequence, not give the instructions in a stepwise manner.

Even though we have done some of these assessments in class, I like to be able to see Dr. Grande conduct an exam. These videos always remind me that it is very important to have a steady consistent tone of voice when working with clients on assessments.

This video was straightforward. His demeanor was calm, yet deliberate. This instrument is pretty cut and dry. We practiced administering a mini-mental status exam during class and it was one of the more simple and basic ones we have encountered so far.

I think this is a great video to show how the way of being a counselor is when they are administering an assessment. I appreciated how Dr. Grande was a matter of fact, stayed neutral, and proposed the questions to the client in a way that was understandable, clear, and concise. I think it was good that he asked the client if it was okay to ask these questions and that he explained the directions to her and what he was testing for prior to beginning. After she completed certain test Dr. Grande thanked her. I think that was helpful in making the client feel at ease as they are being assessed and taking a test which they may be nervous about.

This was a great demonstration on the Mini-Mental Status Exam. I really enjoy administrating this test since there are several different elements in the test that make the process quite enjoyable!

I was instructed to give this exam to a classmate without having the instructions present first. This video was helpful in understanding the proper way to ask questions along with the pauses in between questions. I think when I administered this exam my partner and I just read the questions and answered them without taking a pause or really thinking about what we were doing or its purpose.

After watching this video, i realized just how much I messed up giving this in class without the instructions. I thought this was a great example of how this would work. It was much clearer to me now having seen it on video.

I had this same test given to me while recovering in a care center after brain tumor surgery. It was given twice, some weeks apart. It was hard. I had at least 8 words to instantly memorize and then listen to a 4 long paragraph paper then repeat them back all in the right order again.

I have administered MMSE numerous times mainly on elderly clients. I have also used MMSE to better assess clients with AMS and/or present with increased confusion. Great video displaying how to administer this exam.

suppose to give the instructions of "(1) take with right hand (2) fold in half (3) place on lap/table/floor" in ONE SINGLE COMMAND, instead of saying them separately as done in the video.

The rest of the video is completely perfect, just that one place.

Good video on administering the MMSE. Practice makes perfect but it was helpful watching a demonstration.

Taking and administering this instrument to a classmate, this video role play seemed to be what we did without given the instructions to it first. This was a good video to reflect on when administering a MMSE.
