He was absolutely like that. Here are some quotes by contemporary black artist of that

'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'.

"I love Elvis and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother." - James Brown

“Elvis was my close personal friend, ” recalled (Muhammad) Ali. “He came to my Deer Lake training camp about two years before he died. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know.”

People have tried to spread the lie Elvis was a racist but he was not. He was a flawed man but, a very good man.

Elvis was really devastated when mlk died. He was really in touch with the communities being that he grew up during the great depression and segregation in the 1930s and 40s And lived in the poorest black and white ghettos in Tupelo Mississippi and Memphis Tennessee. More importantly he grew up with a mixed group of black and white kids. That’s just did not happen back then in that location. You could get hurt or killed very easily. As much as Elvis Presley changed the music business forever his actions change the world forever culturally as well. He was a monumental figure of humanity in his short years on earth.

During the rehearsal of the '68 Comeback Special in which Elvis sang 'If I Can Dream', Steve Binder the director, told Earl
'We have all been here with Elvis these weeks rehearsing.
Write a song for him to sing, that says who the man is.'
Earl then wrote, If I can Dream.

Elvis was very distraught about the deaths of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
He had not met Martin Luther King, but had spoken with him on the phone.
The Colonel said he was not going to sing the song, because it was too controversial.
He wanted to end the show with a Christmas song.
Elvis always felt the Colonel (who was no Colonel by the way!) had been so instrumental in his career, that he never went against his wishes.
This was the one time he did.
He told Steve Binder, "I am going to do it".

I am 67 year old.
These times were so very different, especially in the south with regard to race.
So different than today...
Elvis grew up in the projects with black friends.
He was always a huge advocate for the black community.
He attended a black church and was in the choir during high school.
It warms my heart to see you young people learning who he was, and embracing his talent.
I have read everything about him and he truly was (as it depicts here) concerned about being 40, and not being remembered.
If he only knew....
I raised my children now in their forties on his music, and with all the young people I am seeing on YouTube....his legacy will forever live on.
As the popular saying states...'The Sun Never Sets On A Legend'

Elvis was THE FIRST rock star. He set the standard for better or worse.

He ended up closing the 68 special with If I Can Dream...a song serving as a tribute to MLK. I think what you will see is the disagreement that may have been shown on this caption when he says it has everything to do with us to the Colonel. The Colonel did not want to get involved with a "message" song but Elvis overrode him. Elvis was more into Karate. He started while in the Army and probably predated Bruce Lee's exposure. Most people need to recognize that a feature movie can never capture the complexities of anyone. It will serve as an abstract. I did notice that most reactors are excited about the inclusion of his roots. What I am failing to hear though is that most believe that his roots came for one primary source. Again, he was very complex. His roots include a wide range of music including country music, blue grass, gospel quartet, southern gospel, and r and b. He was very aware of the crooners of the past when he entered Sun Studio. He sponged everything around him which is why his sound is like no other and is unique.

Great Reaction! Watch Elvis singing his tribute to Martin Luther King "If I can Dream" the white suit version. Also watch the 20-minute "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" and you'll see who he really was -- and amazing singer, dancer, and courageous humanitarian. The didn't name him "The King" for nothing.

I think what will make this Biopic differen is that, apart from Elvis' life story being fascinating in itself, this movie will also be a bit of a history lesson. As stated by the filmmaker, the idea behind the movie was to explore America's culture and music in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and he said for him Elvis was the perfect canvas upon which to write this story.
And contrary to some people's belief, Elvis never denied his musical influences, and had the greatest respect for the black culture he grew up in. The director, Baz Luhrmann, did a lot of research, and from the interviews I saw with him, I think he will definitely make that a big part of the Elvis 'journey, and shine a light on how it was at that time. The Elvis era was a very tumultuous time in America's history, so this should be very interesting.

he was primarily trained in karate by Kung Rhee in Memphis(1962 all Korea champion)...I also spent 1 1/2 yrs at his Dojo...I seriously doubt Elvis ever REALLY could have been a 3rd/4th Black Belt(too busy to devote the real time needed)...but, I suspect he was pretty good at it. Elvis was a very nice person, EXTREMELY generous with his time and money, and a humble person.
