Imagine someone introducing you to opeth with this song and then u say yeah thats cool i wanna hear more then out of no where the guy plays blackwater park damn man they slew every genre

Great lyrics. I have heard 3 different interpretations.

A first interpretation - the song is about Don Quixote. The Spanish guitar intro, the reference in the lyric to a windmill, and the reference to wandering support the interpretation.

A second interpretation - the song is about man who could not win over a woman who he loved.

A third interpretation - the song is about the pursuit of one's passion. Note that the lyrics never says that "she" (referenced in the song) is a woman. Without pursuing one's passion, one is just a mercenary - a soldier of fortune.

I was very reluctant before clicking the video. I am a huge Deep Purple fan. Mikael didn't let me down, respect Opeth. Of course, Deep Purple have a HUGE influence on Opeth, you can listen it to a lot of their songs.
