Coleman stove leaking fuel valve - Repairs with Steve

I've had this dual fuel single burner Coleman stove for probably 20+ years. The lever that controls the fuel leaked, and it is supposed to be a simple matter of replacing a 008 o-ring. Well sort of, it's fiddly getting it all back together. I actually had over an hour of videos of my finagling and trying over and over, finally succeeding in the end.
This is the shortened version of my repairing the stove, I think I'll try editing again and post a longer version so you can laugh at me struggling with this carn-sarn-it thing.

Its a 5/16" or 10/32" o-ring. I took off the blue cracked one installed it and it works great.👍

Also no need to take off the generator. Remove the on/off knob in the off position, remove & replace the cracked o-ring and reinstal with the knob in the off position.

These use the same valves as in the 508 and I replaced the o-rings in mine with viton ones with no problem. I have had issues with minute cracks or burrs with viton o-rings so i wonder if that might have been the cause for why yours didn't seal. I have a good number of easi-lite lanterns and stoves and all have been rebuilt with full viton o-rings with zero problems. Either way, I'm glad to see you got your leak fixed and you should be good to go for another 20 years. 😁

Thanks! I just ordered that 3-o-ring kit and it was about $6.45 and free shipping. Pretty nice

Thank you for your repair. Can you tell me if you used the smallest, biggest or middle one? Than I can order the correct one, The small one woudl be #6, large one #9 en middle one #7.

The oldcolemanparts web site says the 533 needs two O-rings kits. You only replaced one O-ring on the valve assembly body. Is it the large, medium or smallest one from the kit?? Please advise. This was just the vid I was looking for. Is there a second O-ring on the valve lever shaft? I have 2 of these 533 stoves ( I liked them so much) and I want to refurbish both of their O-rings and want to know if I need only 2 kits or need to buy 4 kits. THANX

Thanks for this video - one question, though... why did you remove the generator (at 1:49 in your video) at all? I replaced the O-ring on my 533 removing only the valve assembly, and had no trouble. Consequently, I didn't need to worry about the paper-clip assisted re-alignment of the half-moon piece that fits into the generator tube. Maybe I was just lucky, but I wondered if you had a specific reason to do so...

Cheers!

Isn't there suppose to be two O-Rings in that valve?

I am having difficulties getting my new stove to simmer ie have a lower temperature setting... Its as if the Red lever isn't doing anything...its either on 100% or off... no middle ground. Do you think replacing those valves could fix it?

I recently purchased a used 533. I pressurised it and opened the valve to see if I could hear the air hissing. I couldn’t. Everyone on YouTube said that the only issues with this lantern is the generator, so I took off the generator and flushed it out and it seems fine. Put the generator back on and tried again. Got nothing. It’s appears that the fuel is not reaching the generator. Any ideas ?

This should work but Old Coleman Parts doesn't have the o-ring kit that should fit the 533A Dual Fuel stove.

Any idea what to do if they leak out the top part of the valve?

Cheap o rings work but not for more than a season i figured out. O rings i got from eBay said they were good for gas oil ect... clearly not.
