It is only sharing the prize money ! The world champion crown is only for classical as shown in 2700chess. The defending champion of World Rapid or Blitz has to go through the Swiss rounds like others !

Summary: Only way to win against Magnus is to lose again & again against Magnus in finale. So he can pity you and shares his titles with you.

FIDE has shown that rules bend like wet noodles when it comes to Magnus Carlsen. A jeans rule is enforced for everyone, but when Magnus shows up, it’s suddenly negotiable? What message does this send to players who follow the rules? And this co-championship nonsense—what is this, kindergarten? Either you play and win or step aside. Hikaru and Fabiano didn’t get such luxuries when they tied; they fought it out like proper sportsmen. FIDE needs to stop acting like Magnus’s personal PR agency and start treating the game and its players with the respect they deserve!!
