Welcome to Headroom with Jonathan Wyner!

Each month, iZotope's Education Director Jonathan Wyner and his guests will discuss a fresh topic, exploring the intersection of music production, music making and technology.

In this first episode of the Headroom webcast, Jonathan is joined by producer, mixer, and musician Prince Charles Alexander to talk about his approach to vocal production, arrangement and mixing. He has an interesting take on what he describes as ‘painting’ with vocals that brings with it a lot of creativity and invention.

It's a continual revelation of how pertinent, valuable information can be exchanged between two people AND those lucky enough to eavesdrop that conversation! Thank you.

It'd be great to get Prince Charles Alexander on a Sonic Talk episode on the Sonicstate channel - we love that dude!

Logic also has stereo balance knobs. Right click over the knobs to expose options.

Great array of interesting, well articulated and usable information in this one. Glad you went over time, it was absolutely worth it! Many thanks to you both. Just a couple of things for the next time, Jonathan; I was listening on headphones and I found the constant rumbling of the lavalier cables really distracting, (my OCD). Couple of overhead shotgun mics next time? Oh, and you guys were almost in white-out on the video too. Other than that - loved it. Prince Charle's vocal formant demonstration was hilariously good. Can't wait for the next one! Thanks again.

Respect the relation in dB with time, you can hear 85dB for 8 houres and with a increase of 3 dB you reduse the time in a half, 88db would be safe for 4 houres and so on

Anyone hip on how to shift formants in ableton as Charles mentions around 12:00? Is it the format knob in the vocoder? Or something with complex warping?
