Pennsylvania Station

A point of view regarding a debatable topic.

Topic: Pennsylvania Station in New York City.

This is a story of an American building - how it was built, why it was lost, what is left of it today, and how each chapter has reflected the country that it stood in.

This video is unlike anything else on this channel. While it is a creative change in direction, it's unlikely that anything similar to it will be produced again. The channel will maintain its usual format.

So for this one video, hopefully you will keep an open mind and enjoy it for what it is. One guy's fascination in this subject got out of hand, and this is what happened as a result.

Thank you for giving this some of your attention.

Don't make me cry about a train station that isn't even in my country

I love that this video seems so odd for this chanel, but I can't imagine how a subscriber of this channel regrets watching it.

I had an emotional roller coaster for a train station I didn't know existed until now.

You did a great job on this, man. Your passion for the topic really comes through here and it's contagious

I love how matter of factual your descriptions are:

"A point of view regarding a debatable topic."

Looking back 2 years later, it really is a massive shame that this video underperformed in comparison to other videos. This video beats some documentaries on the topic. Truly a diamond in the rough.

The entire story of the Pennsylvania Railroad is one inspiring tale of growth, progress, and innovation, followed by slow decline, failure, and eventually bankruptcy.

There's a reason why even now, 50 years after the Penn-Cetral merger, people are still talking about the achievements made by this railroad in it's short time as the king of American transport.

Honestly, this is probably my favorite video you’ve made. That isn’t to say your usual content isn’t good, but I thought this was a particularly poignant video. Maybe because I’m a New Yorker, maybe because I love history. But I don’t think enough people tackle cultural history on YouTube (too subjective for most history channels). Very well done!

It really is a testament to the beauty and grandeur of that building that it makes me feel nostalgic for a train station I'm too young to see in a city I'm too far away to visit, demolished so long ago.

I've lived in new york all my life, I've never had more passion to see something built and so moved by the beauty of this city as I had before now. I'm voting to rebuild Penn Station. Thank you.

What a beautiful video and certainly different in style to your other videos! It also seems like a lot of work went into it, so thank you very much for that! It's always funny to me how many NYC tourists marvel at the majesty of Grand Central, entirely unaware of the fact that there used to be a station that would make GC look like a cheap knock-off. I've always marvelled at the pictures of that mythical Penn Station and then shuddered when thinking about the living embodiment of hell that is today's "station". So, if there's one thing I'll give Cuomo credit for, it's that he's at least trying to partially pay tribute to the original with the Moynihan project, even with all its short-comings (and there are many).

This genuinly made me sad, and at the same time, inspired. At the end when you stated that it seems so impossible, it couldn't be done, i got goose bumps. I knew what you were going to say and every word hit harder than the last. Sometimes things are so crazy and so improbable that they might just be possible.

I remember the last time I was in NYC. I was on a business trip down in southern NJ and decided to spend a weekend in Manhattan to visit friends. Grabbed the Acela from Philly to Penn Station. Got off the train at Penn Station and then followed the signs to the 7th Avenue exit.

The walk up the stairs was magical, as the higher I got the more noise of the city I heard. Once I reached the top, I knew I arrived in one of the greatest cities. Plus the noise and smell of the city was great.

I am too young to remember the grand old Penn Station but have been to Grand Central numerous times and maybe it is reminiscent of Penn Station.
