“I didn’t ask you to do that” is a very Rory defense mechanism. She says it a lot completely unaware that she totally does ask.

The passive-aggressive sarcasm is so very strong in this family :D

"but you accepted it, you did not turn it down" i think is a great response to "I didn't ask you to do that"

This is one of my favorite episodes. It was so satisfying watching Emily and Richard actually coming after Rory for once 😂

Rory didn't realize this is why her mom did her own independent thing. Because if you take wildly expensive gifts, you can’t expect the person who gave it to you to have ZERO expectations about it. You see this a lot when people give thousands to a wedding; yeah, if they give ya 10K, they’ll probably have an opinion.

*says the woman who had only one child*

I loved when they skip forward in time and Richard is still freaking out about the plane.

So much wrong here to unravel. Emily for thinking her expensive furnishings win her control. Rory for being rude. Lorelei for defending her behavior because she was emotional. I learned long ago when somone offers you too much, beware they might be trying to buy YOU!

They are both in the wrong.
Emily and Richard for turning a safe place for Rory into a control mechanism
And Rory for the way she handled it.

They both handled it in not nice ways and it came back to bite them in the end.

Lorelei's, "cut her some slack" is the problem. I expected a massive blow up when Rory stole a yacht and Lorelei didn't blow up, didn't express her outrage, her hurt, her disgust or disappointment. When Rory slept with Dean and Lindsay's mother berated her in public, she immediately jumped to defending Rory without every acknowledging what Rory did was disgusting.

Her confused expression infuriates me when she's being held accountable for his mistakes. Like "how can I be wrong? I'm special.!!"

If you don't notice, she glanced at Lorelei when she said Only children are spoiled...

Emily talking about Rory being spoiled when she was the one who had a huge part in her becoming that way is kinda hypocritical. She has a point though, Rory was terrible

Okay but can we also appreciate how Richard said ‘Don’t raise your voice at your grandmother!’ That’s a man who loves his wife and wants her respected.

Rory is so spoiled. The grandparents just asked for communication & appreciation. Sure, it’s on the parents for spoiling the child. At what point do you grow up and show appreciation for your parents/grandparents and what they do for you. In Rory’s case, they paid for school, getting her a car, housing, and much more. The least she could do is communicate when she is going to leave.

Emily and Richard were certainly projecting some trauma from when Lorelai ran away… but Emily’s comment, “I didn’t realize how spoiled you were, ” sums up how I feel about Rory.
