Australian sailor Tim Shaddock, 51, and his dog Bella are back safe and sound on dry land after being lost in the Pacific Ocean for weeks.

Shaddock was attempting to sail about 6,000 km, from the Mexican city of La Paz to French Polynesia, when disaster forced him and his pet adrift.

Global's Mike Armstrong explains how the pair became stranded, yet survived against the odds while battling exhaustion, despair and hunger.

Tim' s reason to stay alive was his poor dog

He admits that he was texting with his family and could have called for a mayday at any time but was “too proud”. His family knew he was in trouble but they were only updating him on the hurricane. He said he finally decided maybe it was time but he hadn’t decided yet and then that’s when the helicopter showed up. So his family must have called. So he didn’t need to drink rainwater and eat raw fish and his dog wasn’t the reason he survived. He was too stubborn to call for help and just wanted to drift along. He wasn’t too proud for help when it showed up though

He needs to tell everybody the truth that he was traveling without any electronics. He had no emergency locator beacon. He had no satellite communicator. He was a budget seller, and that’s why he was in that situation because he was too greedy to have any type of communication through satellite. He had no electronics.

Something is fishy with this, he was texting his family during the whole event, he had a emergency beacon but didn't use it, his boat looked relatively sailable and what happened to his food and water 🤔
