For those of us around then we never thought the car was too large. Bigger was better.

For those of us who are older...the announcer was the fine actor Alexander Scourby!!

I remember that my dad had 1974 Impala with a 400 under the hood. Plus it was a 2 door and it flew!!!!

Back in late 1974, when I was 13 years old, my mother even-traded her 1973 Cadillac Calais Coupe for a 1974 Caprice Classic Sport Sedan as this one shown, but in Polar White, slick top, with blue interior. It was heavily-loaded with every conceivable option available. Including the 454cid Turbojet V8 with true, dual exhaust system and power decklid. Our entire family shamefully admitted that the Caprice was far quieter, better handling, roomier, faster, and excellent riding over the Cadillac. The Caprice stickered for $7, 200.00. The Cadillac was $8, 600.00. That Caprice was actually hitting close to base Cadillac territory!

My grandfather had a car just like the one in the commercial, same color, and interior.

In 1974, I had a 1969 Pontiac LeMans, and then went on to a 1971 GTO. For years, I believed that anything built from 1973 or later was worthless (over time, I broke that "rule"), but since more recent times, I've come to appreciate even those cars from the malaise era, especially the big, cushy land yachts.

Crazy as it may sound, after decades of having to look at monster pickups, oversized SUVs and goony crossovers, seeing that big Chevy is a breath of fresh air. I certainly wouldn't mind owning one of them before I check out. You'll never see anything like them again.

My father bought one of these...but the rear window was concave. It collected every piece of snow that fell blocking rear views out of the car. Back then, the only type of rear defroster was an electric fan that blew air from the trunk onto the rear window.

The SS Caprice Classic. YOu don't drive it - you navigate it.

My Pop had the 1973 "base" version of this car - the Biscayne. With 350, and "sensible" early 70s color - rootbeer brown 😂. I think he didn't like the car as a whole. As our family grew, he traded it in for a VW Bus in another "sensible" 70s color - pea soup green! 🤣

My Dad had a 1972 Impala. The instrument cluster is similar.
They downsized the Impala in 1977.

Now they have antilock brakes, traction control, cameras, warnings for everything. They thought it drove itself. We had to control the traction, braking, steering, and lord forbid, pay attention.
