The way towards model-based systems engineering

A long-term goal of Mercedes Benz is to establish a traceable and integrated Systems Engineering including processes, methods and software tools covering the entire product development process. The focus is a model-based development process which embraces the vehicle, system and component levels and is supported by an efficient and integrated Systems Engineering environment.
Current milestones are the development and implementation of specific process-related, methodological and IT tool-based Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) solutions with special focus on the specification process of model series and the switch of specification tools. In our context thousands of engineers worldwide are affected by this change. In this presentation we show how an ideally frictionless change can be achieved and how the end users are sustainably supported to work in the new Systems Engineering environment that emerges through the implementation of MBSE in the organization.
