Not much of a difference.. Both can still can handle heavy intensive apps.. Although the X and 8 series might not get iOS 18 in the near future.. It's still is great when you're in a budget

I don't know how iphone XR looks faster with iOS 16 than iphone 8 plus looks very laggy and still get update and still supported by apple
