BUDDYMOON DAY 241/1000 (VLOG 65)

After completing the Otter Trail in South Africa, we began our 2 month South African Road Trip. As we both have never explored our own country, we decided that before we head off again to explore another country, we have to see what the beautiful South Africa has to offer.

The start of our road trip began in George, a little town on the coast of the western cape and in an area known as the garden route. The Garden Route is home to a stretch of road that offers diverse landscape and vegetation and is one the most beautiful parts of Southern Africa, so of course this is where our road trip had to begin.

We expect road trips to have some difficulties but not right at the beginning!

Q: what do you call a large group of baboons?
A: a reason to run 😀

The views are incredible. I have been planning a wine tour trip but I might have to do two trips. This is just the beginning, there's more to come and I'm already in love with South Africa.

Just for everyone here: we didn't have 4x4's when 🇿🇦 was still really wild. In 1973, I knew of 5 4x4's across SA, excluding military trucks. Accessibility to credit had led to everyone "owning" a 4x4. We overlanded from the 1960s, and to this day, never owned a 4x4. Dustbugs Travel's Curtis and Sonia did that undoable viewpoint in a Kwid. 😂

You really underestimate your car. We often did Montagu Pass, and 36 years ago, we did Prince Alfred's Pass on our honeymoon, in a plastic Monza with 700km on the odo. Always drive with circumspection. Remember that much of Africa was tamed in 2WD sedans. Wheels are still round 😊
