500$ (₹36, 500) is one month's rent in a major city for a flat or a month's grocery and utilities for a family of four. That guy was loaded if he had that kind of money to bribe someone. His scams must also be getting him much more than that so he can't be a minimum wage worker.
P.S. Try using monero, less tracable. This is vigilante justice, you can get into trouble.
