In this intimate conversation between the award-winning filmmaking team of Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier (Long Time Running, Anthropocene) and their longtime colourist, Mark Kueper, we get a look inside the collaborative process that has developed over several films. They will explore the synergy between directors and colourists and discuss how they establish the visual language for their films.

Jennifer Baichwal
Jennifer Baichwal is a director and producer for documentaries. Her films have gained her numerous awards within Canada and also an International Emmy. Her features include Let It Come Down: The Life of Paul Bowles, The Holier It Gets, Act of God, and Payback. Her documentary Manufactured Landscapes won TIFF’s Best Canadian Film and Al Gore’s Reel Current Award. She is also the co–director of Long Time Running. She is the ambassador of the Festival’s Share Her Journey campaign, a five–year commitment to increasing participation, skills, and opportunities for women behind and in front of the camera.

Nicholas de Pencier
Nicholas de Pencier was born in Toronto. He is the producer of the documentaries Manufactured Landscapes (06) and Watermark (13), the cinematographer for Al Purdy Was Here (15) and Black Code (16), and the director of Long Time Running (17), all of which screened at the Festival. Anthropocene (18) is his latest feature.

Mark Kueper is Senior Colourist for Technicolor Toronto. A veteran of Technicolor for more than two decades, he is widely reputed for his creativity and ability to enhance a director’s vision. His recent film credits include Little Italy, Long Time Running, and Anthropocene (screening at this year’s Festival), as well as episodic titles American Gods, Wynonna Earp, and Shadowhunters.
