I think the problem with that 'army of PhDs' is that they all share the same neoliberal ideology, some with a dash of Keynesianism, others with a flare friendlier to the folks you see on this channel. The heterodox economists I've been reading lately have connected the dots in a better way than what you'll see on CNBC to be sure.

They make more accurate predictions and have really legitimately well tested and validated policy proposals...mostly because they actually understand the liberal arts and social sciences. They're not economists or attorneys with physics envy.
