How to import / integrate your DnDBeyond Character Sheet into Roll20 with Beyond20

In this video I introduce you to a chromium extension called Beyond20 which makes it super easy to import your character sheet into DnDBeyond.

If you're like my group you probably use DnDBeyond for your character sheets and Roll20 for your virtual table top. As such you have to either manually update your character sheet in Roll20 or manually input your rolls which can be a pain. This is where Beyond20 comes in. Beyond20 allows you to trigger rolls from DnDBeyond to Roll20 as well as sync health.

Hey all. To anyone having issues with the health sync between D&D Beyond and roll20. I have found some information on the issue.

Okay, let's get started. The extension, Beyond20, is working fine (as of 08/21/24). The issue is with Roll20. The extension uses API code calls from the two sites. One is to get data about your roles from D&D Beyond. And one to send the data to Roll20. But Roll20 has some endpoints locked behind a paid 'pro' account for $9/month. One of these is the Character Sheet API endpoints. This means that the extension can NOT send data to Roll20 about your health. If you are paying for Roll20 'Pro, ' this video still works; if not, this part is unavailable. You can read more on Roll20's wiki page, "Building Character Sheets, " which lists the following: "This is the main article on how to create or edit Custom Character Sheet for Roll20. You need to be a Pro-user to access this feature."

TLDR: You must pay Roll20 $9/month for the health bar to auto-update.

Is it just me or is there absolutely nothing in this video about actually importing your character into roll20? Just using your Beyond character sheet to control roll20? Even though it says "import" in the video title?

This video overlooks a crucial step. While following instructions in the video, when I try to "Save Changes" after adding the token and typing in the correct character name from DND Beyond, Roll20 hits me with the choices: Use the Charactermancer, Create an NPC, Edit Sheet Directly. This video does not include that and no matter which selection I make it will not import my D&D Beyond character. Trying to find any up to date info on how these apps integrate is extremely frustrating.

Great video! If we are using the Encounter builder from DnD Beyond, how can we also import those monsters inside roll20? It would be cool if you could do a video on that.
