2:17 If a regulation is beneficial for the consumer and the environment, then it’s warranted and should be passed. So yes, I think the EU should force Apple to adopt USBC on the iPhone.

I don’t mind either port, future is portless anyway. I’am strongly against government putting its fingers in areas it has no business to be, let the free market decide.

The only flaw with this is that anyone else out there got cables that only last a couple of months. Whether lightning or usb c, none of my cables last more than like 4 months.

2:43 Sorry, I disagree. This is how it works whole automotive business regarding safety in EU and the USA. Mostly all safety rules comes from the government. And it has judge impact how cars are constructed.

The problem with the magsafe is that it takes up way more space than a cable if your a minimal traveller like me. I definitely don’t want to be carrying pucks around. I’d rather have a small, light cable.

Apple is slow to change to USB C on the iphone because.
1) The iPhone is by far Apple's best selling product.
2) Apple makes millions selling lightning accessories.
3) They make nothing and possibly have to pay a royalty to use USB C.

The real problem is that Apple is making money with the licenses for the Lighning-port. IMHO, an abusive monoopole-like issue.

53:00 USB-C is the road, but the specifications, like USB3.1, USB4 £ Thunderbolt are the vehicles.

As a french man, I wonder : is the EU known for being slow at passing laws in the US ?

For once a government tech initiative that’s actually beneficial and not utterly stupid.

I always hear the wrong side of these government mandates on sustainable practices and the environment … but no government has a mandate to be able to recycle all the ewaste that will be generated if apple switches to usbc … like they don’t have a way to 100% recycle the metals in your phone why would you say make millions of people throw away their cables

Next the EU will be legislating candle wick lengths. Wait, that already happened.

If apple puts lightning away and go portless it will be the same e-waist result as putting USBC on iPhones

*If the device has a port then it has to be USB-C

I think they can get away by not having any port and just having MagSafe, but maybe they will be required to have the usb c on the MagSafe puck, which I think will be very nice anyway

I’d love to have one cable to charge them all

Lets hope they force apple to some sanity
This has only advantages
I dont care about those "i have to many lighting accessories mimi" your own fault, or worse complain about apple because they forced you to buy them since dongles are literally necessary to use their products
