I’ve been watching this series on YT and I plan on purchasing the Blu-ray set. I recognized some of the archival footage from WW2 in color and more recent documentaries, but there is a tremendous amount of footage that I’d never seen. I was also surprised at the amount of colorized footage, as this was made in the early 70s. The interviews and narration make this an unparalleled documentary experience, far surpassing any recent ww2 series including the excellent ww2 on color. I can’t imagine why this series is so often overlooked - perhaps the number of episodes is a bit much for the modern attention span. I’ve found it enthralling thus far, however, and I appreciate your review of the boxed set. Cheers

I am sure I have seen quiet a lot of the series at various times. Don't think I have every seen the whole thing. Remembering it being really well made and very in depth. Great review mate keep them coming

I have seen a lot of these, but I do not think I have seen all of the episodes.

It is a fantastic documentary series.

I really want to pick up this series on Blu-ray now and watch all of it.

I have watched all of this series several times and it is the best documentary about WWII there is. The other series you talk about the BBC documentary "The Great War" is also probably the best series about WWI. You say you are interested in WWII but to truly understand the Second World War you have to also understand WWI. The Second World War has its roots in the First World War. Indeed without the First World war there would have been no Nazis or Fascists in Germany and Italy. Communism would most likely not have gripped Russia. The world would have been a very different place.

I always found ww2 more interesting aswell, and not just because my family is German and my grandfather was in the war, but just because it changed so much of everything, even what war was, very intrested, pretty sure as a kid I saw some of this on PBS or the history channel, unsure tho, but it sounds very familiar, great stuff Jimmy

Just got the 11 disc dvd version £12 bargain I watched it when younger but its kinda time now, its without doubt a very well made masterpiece and that is a rarity.

I’m enjoying that you’re doing these but I’m not into my history at all. I’m aware of some of the atrocities of war and can tell as someone who is into this kind of thing you rate this highly but I know I’ll never watch it. I did watch all of this though as like I’ve said I appreciate these reviews. I’d be curious if you are taking suggestions for the series, if you are I have a couple I’ve loved that I’d love your views on

Sounds like the didn't just do this from the victor's point of view. This would make this more watchable for me.

I think I would have done better in my history exam if we hasd focused on this instead of the bloody toll puddle martyrs

I love history documentaries but I don't think I'd end up watching this one, as you said it's not something you can binge watch and I'm a binge watcher. Plus I don't think I could watch anything about the concentration camps.
