I'm not usually a follower of the media's obsession with the Royal family but the way that the Princess of Wales has been treated by the UK press on recent weeks has been incredibly sad.

Her video tonight is a direct result of the relentless hounding and wildly obtrusive speculation of the disgusting media we have in this country.

Her illness is not ours to share and were it not for the the tabloid frenzy thay forced an intrusive spotlight on Katie's situation, she wouldn't have had to post her video.

She's a woman, mother and wife, dealing with cancer. The media intrusion of press, broadcast and online commented forced her and her family to make her ordeal public. I can't imagine what she is going through right now, but I'm certain that she doesn't need to deal with her ordeal under the public spotlight.

Let's leave them alone. Public sympathy shouldn't be used to sell newspapers, draw TV and radio audiences, and online traffic for spurious click bait. It's a private and personal situation that doesn't need to be made infinitely harder under public scrutiny.

Again, I'm not usually a fan of the monarchy, but that video from Kate really made me feel both sad and angry. She clearly wanted to put her family first but was forced to share her deeply traumatic situation against her will.

Let's leave her alone. She had her family around her and our best wishes to help her through this difficult time. But let her recover quickly and privately.

She needs to focus on herself without the pressure of the world on her mind.


She will get through this, and we can cheer her recovery when she is ready to share her journey publicly.

Prince William lost his mother at the direct result of media obsession. He and his family cannot let history repeat itself by making things tougher during this difficult time.

The news commentators that have unfairly turned this into a media frenzy should be ashamed of themselves and need to back off.
