Tracheostomy Definition, Methods and Parts of Tracheostomy Tube | Medvarsity
Показать описание
A tracheotomy or tracheostomy is a surgically created opening through the neck into the trachea (windpipe) to allow direct access to the breathing tube. A tube is usually inserted through this opening to provide an airway and remove secretions from the lungs.
Breathing is done through the tracheostomy tube rather than the nose and mouth. It is typically performed in an operating room under general anesthesia. Open surgical tracheostomy and percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy are the methods used to perform tracheostomy.
The tracheostomy tube is used to keep the tracheal stoma (hole) open. The hub, flange, outer cannula, inner cannula, cuff, pilot balloon, and inflation line are all standard components of the tracheostomy tube.
Dr. Pratheema R, discusses about the definition and methods of the tracheostomy and in detail about the parts of the tracheostomy tube.
