WHAT TYPES OF CARAMEL ARE SAFE FOR BRACES?
Here are my tips for caramel with braces:
1. Caramel is super sticky and depending on the type is can get stuck in between your braces and be very difficult to clean out. Even without braces caramel can get stuck between your teeth. The longer sugar sits on your teeth and braces the more likely you are to develop white spots and cavities.
2. "What if I let it melt in my mouth and don't chew it?". If you do this, I would limit it to special occasions. The longer it takes to eat candy, the longer the sugar sits on your teeth for.
3. Freeze Dried Caramel (which I actually shockingly liked!) is less sticky and easier to bite into. This would be the only type of caramel that I would say is a safer alternative!
