------------------------

"Can't Help Falling in Love" is a song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961).
It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc.
Τhe melody is based on "Plaisir d'amour", a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini.
The song was initially written from the perspective of a woman as "Can't Help Falling in Love with Him", which explains the first and third line ending on "in" and "sin" rather than words rhyming with "you".

"Can't Help Falling in Love" was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii.
It has also been recorded by many other artists, including Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the US and UK charts.
It was listed as one of the greatest songs of all-time by Rolling Stone, ranking Νο.403 in the list's 2012 edition.

Background and release

Elvis Presley's version of the song topped the British charts in 1962, spending four weeks at Νo. 1.
The single is certified Platinum by the RIAA, for US sales in excess of one million copies.

In the United States, the song peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 behind Joey Dee and the Starliters' "Peppermint Twist" and went to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for six weeks.

During Presley's late 1960's and 1970's live performances, the song was performed as the show's finale.
Most notably, it was also sung in the live segment of his 1968 NBC television special, and as the closer for his 1973 Global telecast Aloha from Hawaii.

A version with a faster arrangement was the closing number in Presley's final TV special, Elvis in Concert. "Can't Help Falling in Love" was also the last song he performed live, at his concert in Indianapolis at Market Square Arena on June 26, 1977.

The recording appeared on the 1997 CD re-issue Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3 as a bonus track and on the 2002 career retrospective collection ELV1S: 30 No. 1 Hits.

In 2015, the song was included on the If I Can Dream album on the 80th anniversary of Presley's birth. The version uses archival voice recordings of Presley and his singers, backed by new orchestral arrangements performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The song is used as an anthem by several English football clubs since the 1960s, including Huddersfield Town, Hull City, Swindon Town and Sunderland.
According to a 2020 survey by OnBuy, the song is the most popular choice for couples as the song for the first dance at their wedding.

Penny whistle & drums, god that takes me back, & then that beautiful raw voice & occasionally harmonies. The way Alison sings "can't" always gets me, but it's the  rhythms that bring me to tears. They touch me, I can't resist clapping or dancing, or just waving my hands. Fecking stupid for a man of nearly 60, but this song makes me "feel" young.

Omg "Some kind of wonderful " brings me back. A 61 year old now but this song by "Lick the tins" and the beautiful Mary Stuart Masterson makes me so sentimental for my teenage years. She was my major crush. What a fabulous looking girl.

There will never be another writer like John Hughes the way he captured how we felt in the 80's and put it on film his movies defined my generation.

Well, it’s 2025 and I’m 68 now, but this song still grabs me. Glad I got to live in a time when romance just happened between people without swiping through a couple hundred first. :)

Omg the movie "Some kind of wonderful" had just about everything. I was so in love with the bolshy Mary Stuart Masterson in my teens and then the best ever version of this wonderful love song at the end. John Hughes is special and knew how to tap into our teenage psyche.

First heard this on the Snapper (great film second favorite only to Everlasting Piece) this is my favorite version of this song, like it more than any other cover and the original. I can’t help but smile whenever I hear it.
