Going to add "The Periodic Table" on my own reading list, thanks for the suggestion!

There’s way more readers into fantasy/sci-fi/frictions.

It’s a rare find to have someone recommending biography/historical context/religious history/non-friction.

Thank you for liking what you like and sharing them with us. ✨

I also read Anna Karenina this fall and honestly nobody describes the condition which is being human more eloquently then Tolstoy

Greatly appreciate this video, John. You've sold me on _The Periodic Table_ which I'll do my best to find on CD at my local library. I'm normally just a SF/F geek, but in the almost 2 years I've been subscribed, here, I've delved into more general & non-fiction than I had in the last 30 years (I'm 57 now). I have a vision issue, as well as an arm issue from a stroke 5+ years ago, so audio books are easiest now. I mean this in the best way possible: You're my "man crush" - your positivity, passion and intelligence and what I always look for in my buds. In my youth, my late best friend (from "82 to '85) was a guy named Josh and you remind me of him, greatly. Thank you again!❤

I highly recommend another work of Primo Levi: If This Is a Man (published as Survival in Auschwitz in the US). The way he tells his story makes it very real. It’s a great book to educate yourself and others not on a facts level, but on a human and emotion level.

What a fascinating list! Sometimes I have trouble finding new, intriguing reading material...how is it that you seemingly always find something new and interesting to read?

I just listened to Allegedly and The Silent Patient this week. I'm reading Wings of Ebony and Jackpot. And those 3 books for my assignment. As well as a book for my African Lit class. It's a vibe.

Hey bro, make sure you’re taking care of yourself! I know the work load can be a lot so be sure to add in some time to take it easy and decompress - keep up the good work!

In my British Literature class this semester, I've been reading King Lear, A Sentimental Journey, and A Christmas Carol. All great!

I really enjoy all the book-related content on this channel. I typically don't read a lot of nonfiction but you've brought a lot of them to my attention that does sound interesting. I'm definitely gonna pick up The Periodic Table now.

If you're interested in pursuing Orwell further, some of his social novels are just as good as 1984 in my opinion. I would recommend 'Burmese Days' especially. It deals with the nature of British colonial rule in a really interesting way. It's made clear that Orwell is hugely opposed to the Raj, but it's always slightly in the background rather than taking the full focus of the novel, and the protagonist is always more concerned with other things.

If you're looking for more of an essay style, 'Road to Wigan peer' is a pure social polemic, with a really fun style.

I also greatly enjoyed 'an Homage to Catalonia', although I was already very interested in the Spanish civil war. Orwell writes in an open first person about his conversion to socialism from a very sceptical beginning. Howeverthere are long periods that are a pure historical account. Perhaps my favourite of Orwell's writings stylistically if not for everyone.

If you enjoyed reading his essays recreationally, it's well worth looking into some of his longer works.

Your attention to detail with what you read is great! You clearly understand the deep meaning of what you are reading, as you describe it in your own words in a perceptive manner, whereas most other booktubers would go "It was great!" "It was good" etc.
