This is a unboxing and first look of the Nikon Nikkor 50mm D 1.4f lens. This is lens is great for portrait pictures and low light shots. The AF-Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4D is Nikon's current version of their fast 'standard' prime lens, and while this specific model was introduced in 1995, the basic optical design dates back to the manual focus 50mm 1:1.4 AI of 1977. It features a traditional layout of 7 elements in 6 groups utilizing spherical surfaces only, which Nikon claims will deliver distortion-free images with superb resolution and colour accuracy, plus high contrast even at maximum aperture. The 50mm focal length classes it as a 'standard' lens on the FX format, with none of the 'perspective distortion' characteristic of wideangle or telephoto lenses, whilst on the vastly more popular and widespread DX format it behaves like a short telephoto, ideal for portraiture.

The 50mm 1:1.4 is one of the older lenses in Nikon's lineup, and this is reflected in several aspects of its design. The lens features a traditional aperture ring, which will no doubt be appreciated by photographers who grew up with mechanical manual-focus 35mm SLRs such as the FM range (although the only DSLRs on which it can actually be used are the high-end D1-D3 and D100-D700 bodies); however autofocus is 'screw-drive' from the camera body, and therefore won't work on the entry-level D40, D40xThe 50mm 1:1.4 is one of the older lenses in Nikon's lineup, and this is reflected in several aspects of its design. That was excellent. Very helpful. I wouldn't mind seeing some photo examples taken with this lens to get an idea of the quality. Thank you Tigertek.

You shouldn't leave your camera sensor side up because it will let a lot of dust fall in. You should keep it facing down while quickly switching lenses.

So, question? This is a lens designed for the FX full frame models. I own a DX like you, doesn't this lens turn into a 75 mm on a DX. I am used to working with a 5Omm on my analog camera and I want the same view on my new nikon, so what lens sould I buy?
Thanks for uploading btw.

@ithree6mafia If you u shoot in manual on a regular basis then go for it. I personally think this is a must have lens. I use it all the time.. mostly on manual. Its really worth it for the price especially if ur going to be shooting alot of photos in door portraits in close range... it can still be used for a variety of shots.

I know its been a while since you posted this video. However I have this lens and I have the Nikon D90, but I a few months ago purchased the Nikon D7100 and I was wondering if you have any idea if this lens will work on the D7100.  Thank you.

I have D80. By the way why is body so big. Is it a grip? Batteria inside? Is there a good Bokeh?

My God, lucky it's a metal mount the way you tried hacking it on the body!

That 17-55 is seriously oversized, so glad I opted for a Tammy 17-50 2.8 instead.

"So, just point and shoot." This phrase completely defeats the purpose of having an SLR body.
