RIP Captain. For those that doubt the need for at least two pilots in the cockpit this is sadly your answer.

This, right here, is why we will never have 1 pilot commercial flights. Absolutely necessary to have a 2 crew minimum.

Rest in peace, prayers & condolences for his loved ones.

Jeez that’s sad. I’m glad the co-pilot kept calm. It almost sounded like he knew it was too late for his comrade. It’s cliche, but he or she died doing what they loved.

Thank you Capt. for making the difference in your passengers' lives and the lives of all who knew & loved you. Peace

Clearly the co-pilot did a great job. I do wish calling for paramedics, whether at the gate or on the ground, was a standard part of the checklist for returning due to a medical emergency.

I thought all those health screenings were to avoid this, given this happens so often they don't seem to work well.

And airlines are lobbying for single-pilot

That was criminal. He should have asked for paramedics and stopped on the runway if he had to.

First Officer To Control (who's had too much coffee and has become in his calls to the point of being dangerous) - " We don't need paramedics, , ". That's where he/they dropped the ball right after landing. They/He should have made them screech to a halt on 28C and requested immediate paramedics rolling, , ASAP!!!. I'm sure that captains family and the company they fly for would have appreciated a little bit more HUMAN attention, that what was given by the First Officer.

I was thinking if one of the flight attendants asked the passengers if a doctor was on board like the old movie cliche. But are the attendants or someone able to open the door to the cockpit for such an emergency? And then, would they have time to help the pilot at that stage of flight, or get him out of the seat to do CPR without hitting or disturbing the controls?

I don’t understand why a mayday wasn’t declared… pilot was speaking and 20 seconds later the copilot has taken over and is speaking like he’s been dead for a week

Why does the first officer always have to switch seats to taxi?

With a single pilot, it probably would have been simpler to keep him on the tower freq to reduce workload

How about..EMERGENCY..oh 4.5 for 5.. turn 080. Maybe we missed some form of emergency call

On one hand it seems silly to taxi all the way back to the gate rather than have paramedics meet them on the runway. On the other hand it’s probable quicker to taxi to the gate then coordinate air stats to the runway.

No Mayday for the captain? No emergency declare?

I have no knowledge of how to fly an airplane. But in a case like this with one person trying to fly and navigate and do everything, the air traffic control system makes it more difficult for that one person by having him switch to Departure and then switch to Approach and then switch to Tower and then presumably switch to Ground. In the case of an emergency like this wouldn't it be possible to keep the pilot on one frequency and talking to one person throughout in order to alleviate some of the workload?
