#SEPTANDY Will All 5 CoCo-2s Work? TRS-80 Color Computer 2

Put your prediction in the comments. I'll tell you mine. Whatever happens, I will do whatever is necessary to see these machines whole again. The TRS-80 Color Computer 2 was my second computer ever, just after the Coco 1. See my original Coco 2 and 4 others from Ebay.

The COCOs I've bought over the years have been the only retro computers that have never needed repair. They are one of the best designs of the era. I still have 3 of them around and my COCO 3 has a permanent spot on my retro bench (as does my Apple //e).

Great video! I recently (<6 months) fired up my original CoCo 1 for the first time in almost 30 years - and it worked perfectly! I now have a CoCoVGA installed and a CoCoSDC, along with a recently acquired MPI and Speech/Sound Cart. I repaired all the sloppy modding I did in my teens, and gave it a fresh coat of gray paint, and am so happy to have it back.

I guessed 5 for 5. I suppose I wasn't totally right. But, these machines are notoriously rock solid. Even the ones on eBay that are sold as not working often only need a chip reseated, or some contacts cleaned. So funny that a repair-a-thon for five CoCo2s takes only 20 minutes as there's virtually nothing to fix!!! This is why there are so many C64 repair-a-thon videos and almost none on CoCos... (BTW, I also own a C64, and enjoy it too). : D I'm really looking forward to seeing your composite mod. I don't own a CoCo2 yet, but if I do get one, a composite/S-Video mod would be one of the first things I'd want to do to it so I could use it on my Magnavox 8CM515 monitor along with my CoCo3, or on my Commodore 1702 using Chroma/Luma.

One thing you can check on your two Tandy labelled Coco 2's - they may have the enhanced 6847-T1 VDG chip, which added true lower case, inverse video, and full border modes (I can't quite read the model numbers, but it looks like they end in a "B", which is the ones that usually had the upgrade). You can test it by typing POKE 359, 57:POKE 65314, 80. That should change the black border to green on the enhanced chip, and you can further test by hitting SHIFT-0 (zero) at the same time after the pokes, and then try typing some letters. If you have the newer chip, you will see true lowercase.

Great stuff, AC. Keep the great content coming. Really enjoying your channel so far. I’m a Commodore nerd, so looking forward to some more C64 content in the future. The CoCo stuff is still great though and really interesting. Will you load some software onto the CoCos soon? I’m keen to see what it can do.

Original guess!
4 for 5!

UPDATE.... I'm at #2 machine I am willing to bet that you still need to do a little fine tune of the channel you are on. I am hopingyou realize this and try to adjust the fine tune if you can even do so.... let's

so the Coco 3 did not agree with me OR.... the coco 2's may need some adjusting. I't been a while.... but there may be some small pots inside the machine in or near the RF mod that may need adjustments.... they might even be adjustable caps or adjustable chokes instead...if they exists at all.

UPDATE now that you have put in # 3 and it's green... I still think you need to internally adjust the first two.

I think it's still 4 for 5 because I think you still need a small adjustment on the non-green ones and to me that is not an issue...I consider them working.

UPDATE I think you can call them all working so I was off by one. ....check out that possible adjustment internally.

UPDATE concerning your so I am guessing I was somehow right or somewhere in the neighborhood about an I guess I'll need to wait until you post the next video.

Looking forward to it.

If not throw the broken ones off the roof of an office bldg. The really early Trash 80’s had a light grey screen instead of green. The “chicklet” models did the same thing.

It's called "Color Computer" so they have to have color to be working
