Aplastic Anemia (Key Critical Thinking Points!!)

Here's some key critical thinking points to know about aplastic anemia for your med surg class:

🩸Increasing iron won't help (this is a bone marrow problem!)

🩸Anemia happens because the bone marrow can't make enough RBCs = blood cell counts will be ⬇️

🩸All of the signs and symptoms link back to the patho (low blood cells): Low RBCs = less blood to the organs = lethargy, SOB, pale skin, etc.

🧠 Memory trick: "a" means without, "plastic/plasia" means formation. = no formation of the red blood cells

⚡️Major NCLEX point: Watch for infections because these pts are immunocompromised!
