I used to dine down at the warf with my buddy Rich My friend Kat kept her boat at this harbor. I was there for Loma Prieta earthquake. I was in the flats, my roommate was on the warf when the quake happened. Me and my pals had a boat tied to this thing and my buddy Dan lived on it. This warf was central to my life there most of the eighties.

I'm sure there were 100s of structural integrity tests performed on this 110 year old pier in the last 5 years to determine whether it was actually safe to park cars and have buildings on it let alone walk on it.
That's probably why even the best engineers never saw this coming.

Looks like the marine growth on those pier pilings contributed to the failure from wave loading exceeding the structural integrity.

This is what happens when the governor cares more about taxing and fear mongering it people then investing in it's infrastructure.

Torpedoes are an underwater weapon. Logs from the pier are not literally torpedoes only torpedoes are literally torpedoes. Knock off the hyperbole and don't use words if you don't know the meaning. This is garbage reporting.

If it was anyone else, government would condemn it and order it torn down. The thing is obviously unsafe and its complete removal would ensure the safety of ALL.

My guess is that it will take at least 10 years to figure out why and at least $10 billion before the first piling gets done.
