What Is The OVO Sweatshop?

The OVO Sweatshop has been a term popularized by hip-hop gossip and news channel DJ Akademiks. It is used to describe the allegations that people say Drake uses his artists and some of his current and former artists have spoken about their discontent on that label. Other than makonnen who was dropped from the label we've seen everyone else complaining about Drake and OVO take their statements back and say they were happy.

The Weeknd was smart for not signing to OVO after he gave Drake at least 4 songs on Take Care. If The Weeknd signed to OVO, I think he’d still be writing for Drake and not the big time star that he is today. Look at what happened to PartyNextDoor

Isn’t it strangely ironic that NONE of the people that work with Drake do interviews or have active socials? 🤔

OVO sweatshop located in the basement right below 40’s studio, heard the air conditioner barely works in the summer & bathroom breaks are limited😨

never sign to another artist they will steal your sound and use it to get more accolades

The reason they find unknowns is because they are hungry and willing to do anything to get a chance. Its a tactic not only Drake employs but many business people. Find someone hungry with talent exploit them to your benefit.

"Drake" is not a rapper he is an actor who plays one. Drake was manufactured like pop stars are. OVO gives him a script and he reads it. They look at the trends and what style is hot at the moment and prep the character "drake" to act it out. They look at rising starz and people with a huge buzz and stands drake next to them. It does help artist but it helps drake more. Drakes trying to be edgy and street now. He grew the beard out and got a southern street rapper writing for him. Drake out here talking bout bandos, trap houses, no cap, sipping lean lol. Nigga a silver spoon baby from the upper middle class in Canada and all his real friends are upper class white Canadians. He has no hip hop background and had access to the music industry and america through his daddy.

Academics created the terms "ovo sweatshop" and "mumble rap" and everyone uses it but people pretend that he's not influential

The weeknd was in ovo. He gave a full mixtape to drake. As an upcoming artist you don't have much choice and it's painful but eventually the weekend decided to go solo. And may I say that was the best decision he made. He is way bigger and on a whole new level. Music industry is really full of ups and downs.

I'm an artist. I wouldn't sign to a label like OVO because I want to be in the limelight. I would never want to be a discreet character that helps other artists bag hits while they get all the glory. I don't care about the money. I want to shine.

It’s where talented artists signed by ovo come up with reference tracks for Drake to use. “I never run out of material” He meant that shit. As long as the bars are decent Drake speaking those words makes it fire. And as long as other people are constantly working on making him hits, he aint going nowhere. “Sweatshops” in rap is an old concept. Drake learned it from being in one himself for Dre. Ghostwriting is everywhere, its not a thing specific to Drake. *Collaboration* though, is different because the writer gets credit. I honestly just wish collaboration was more common in rap instead of paying off the dude who wrote your song just so you get the praise :/

A place where ghost writers, writers and musicians alike go to sacrifice their artistry to their lord and savior Aubrey “Drake” Graham, for the promise of later being “put on” or promoted through said work in order to later obtain recognition, fortune and fame.

I think we all know that Drake is the biggest industry plant in rap history

It makes me laugh how they are stuck in the ovo sweatshop they can’t leave and no one can come in and he wrote the song hold on we’re going home 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂

So, basically Drake is running a publishing company that exclusively makes reference songs for one customer .... Drake.
