So the product does its job... I feel like the video has an unjustifiably negative tone towards it... It's not the adapter's fault that there are no windows 10 drivers for a 20year old, discontinued PCI device... There are plenty of PCI cards with drivers for win7 onwards. I own many PCI cards like this, Soundblaster PCI audio cards or many Wireless LAN PCI cards coming instantly to mind. Imho this adapter is handy.

Now: Find an ISA to PCI adapter, and plug it into one of the PCIe to PCI adapters, so we can finally use our AWE64 gold cards in windows 10!

You do know that dosbox is available for Ubuntu right? This makes Win 10 and Ubuntu equally viable as choices for your use case. Ubuntu might even be better because it supports the hardware in question. I'm a bit confused because you brought it up and then dismissed it because "that doesn't help [you] with [your] interest in retro ms-dos gaming."

Maybe you should change the title to "PCI Express to PCI" now it's in reverse order :) . Also thank you for the video.

You could install full height cards if you got a PCI extension cable and plug it into a slot that is not in the reach of the motherboard (Full 7-slot ATX Case and 4-slot mATX motherboard.

Also, you could run DOS with this setup, since I doubt that the AsMedia chip needs any drivers. So that way you could have period correct hardware/peripherials with a modern cpu, ram and motherboard. Though you might run into the issue of not finding small enough RAM modules (less than 1gb) with something like DDR4.

Awesome, I still have some high end PCI audio hardware that was collecting dust

*Can you use a Voodoo2 alongside a PCIE video card or inbuilt APU graphics using this adapter?*

you could put a full size PCI card in there if you used a PCI extension cable

I've just upgraded my PC to coffee lake which is the latest and I specifically wanted a PCI slot, I found several boards that still have one, I got one and it works just fine. I've always wondered about these adapters, and it was nice to see one working, so thanks for putting up this vid.

The Microsoft catalog reveals a Vista driver for the ES1371, probably more chance of a Vista driver working than an XP. PS. I also got an old CMI9880 working on Win10 with an XP driver

This may be useful for things like old IDE controllers, which still have support of current computers. I have such, which is a PCI slot version and is properly detected by UEFI and OS. I can even boot from it, from an "old" IDE drive. That said, IDE controllers probably are not what a retro PC fan would want to use it for anyway. However, there are new motherboards that still have native PCI slots on them. One I know of is MSI PC MATE for AM4 platform, which does have such slots. The one I am using is also MSI PC MATE but for Intel Haswell architecture. So if you really need this, I would buy a motherboard that has such a slot natively on the board, rather than buying this converter. Driver issue would be the same regardless and you avoid all problems mentioned in the video.

Thanks for this!
I finally upgraded my audio PC board, CPU & RAM. I have an old UAD-1 PCI card for audio processing, it works fine on Windows 7 & 10. It doesn't need to be accessible, just needs to be plugged in, so this should solve it for me just great :)

They may be hard to find now but I have used pci riser cables in the past. You could put this adapter on the last slot of the motherboard, then use the riser cable to just to the next slot in the case past the motherboard. As I said though these cables are likely very difficult to find especially with the massive amount of people searching to pcie risers (gpu mini ng).

If the drivers are installed can these cards be brought to a guest OS in virtual box and be used in there exclusively ?

There are still some modern motherboards that have PCI slots. I built a computer last year with a Gigabyte B360-D3H Coffee Lake motherboard and it has one PCI slot. It is still available on Amazon. I used it with my high-end Marian Sound Card. Works flawlessly with Windows 10. Also some AMD B350 motherboards have PCI slots (such as the MSI B350 Tomahawk) but you can't buy them new anymore.

PCI is legacy now? Feck, I'm old.

My question is the hight issue. I have a case could tolerate the extra hight but, how do you secure the card (screw it in ) so it does not come loose?

Will the case be able to close with this?
