Agassi is incredible. He played against Connors, McEnroe, Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Courier, Chang, Sampras, Muster, Ivanesivic and the Safin, Hewitt, Federer, and Nadal. He started as a punk but ended as a legend; simply amazing.

Two words come to my mind: Clean (ball striking) and Modern (the first complete baseline player in the history of tennis).

The tennis world lost a truly great player after this guy retired. I remember not wanting to watch tennis again. The same thing happened to me when Jordan retired.

For a short guy, who fell off due to his off-court antics, and came back to become world number 1 again.. not too bad.. oh, plus he won 8 major titles, completed all 4 to be exact; Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open.. an olympic gold medal to top it all off. Andre is one of the most established guys in pro tennis history. He really is one of the greats!😊 Pete Sampras, Novak, Rafa, Roger... these guys never went to their rockstar phase like Andre. Those 4 greats are all about tennis... Andre was the last rockstar in tennis.

One of the few players to complete a Career Grand Slam, a truly classy player. Legend.

Tennis before Agassi was standard volleys, flat shots, waiting for the ball to drop to hit it. Tennis after Agassi is massive top spin, drive volleys, taking the ball early and in result more fun for viewers. All that resulted more prize money because of the popularity, so all the active players must be thankful to Agassi.

Now I understand why Andre is called the father of modern baseliners...

Agassi became a high percentage player during his 30s. He hit fewer winners but just kept pressuring the opponent into errors.

Great video. Need the “round the pole” shot at the ‘94 US Open though. Lots of folks didn’t even know that was legal until he did it. Think it was against Ferreira- but could be wrong…

I started playing tennis after finding out about Andre. I actually mimicked his game so much so (on another level) that people used to watch me play at the clubs/courts and comment, usually within a few points after watching, that I played just like him. I forced myself to to take the ball on the rise and worked on my timing, my two handed backhand was scary at times and it was my main weapon, I practiced the swinging volley and tweener (btwn the legs) and even used both in tournament play. I had a few instances when I played a level up successfully and remember thinking, “so wow, this is what Agassi feels like but even better”. That was when I played division 1 level college kids who could smoke me. I remember I never mastered that flat up high shoulder height baseline bomb he used to unleash once in a while. I tried and tried but the angles and my sport maturity were too poor to get that one down

The most exciting tennis player of all time. Sorry but he was he the face of flamboyant Tennis in the 90s.

Some of his best matches have come in Key Biscaine. It's only fitting that we had highlights from there. I am saying this in regards to the new venue in Miami, as well. Not the best decision ! Anyway, coming back to Andre, you are an inspiration to me, a great person, a big heart, and one of the most interesting life stories i have read about. Thank you for your autobiography, thank you for your tennis, thank you for everything !
And happy birthday, man ! Enjoy it !
