No... but the centimeter kid was actually right.
Centi- means 0.01. So when you have x centimeters, you really have 0.01x meters.
To get meters you take out the centi, which means divide by 0.01 or multiply by 100.

for the second one, where it tells to find x, x = 4 because using the Pythagorean theorem,

3^2 + x^2 = 5^2
9 + x^2 = 25
25 - 9 = x^2 = 16
square root of x^2 = 4
x - 4
