officially announced today that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will be the first phone to use the new Sony IMX707 sensor in its primary rear camera. The sensor’s specifications include 50 megapixel’s resolution, 1/1.28-inch sensor size, 1.22μm pixel size, and 2.44um fusion large pixels.
Industry insider Digital Chat Station says that this CIS (contact image sensor) is actually a small facelift of last year’s IMX700 sensor and both feature a near-identical set of specifications. Another tech blogger that goes by the name Todo Plus additionally revealed that there is no noticeable performance difference between the IMX707 and its older version. If true, this could mean that Sony has simply relaunched last year’s IMX700 under a new name, although it is likely that slight tweaks have been put in place.
