Those old shatabdi icf rakes. They were dream and a fantasy for every child to travel once or watch them pass. I remember we used to fear shatabdi and rajdhani trains like they were some very royal and heavy trains which can cause damage haha. I used to watch every single train cross in my journeys even sacrificing sleeps at nights just to capture those glimpse of trains passing after an incoming loud honk. Obviously those were golden sleeper class travel days with it's own typical government problems but seriously the excitement level was something different. When nowdays you can just by a click watch any train move or how does it look etc., but in those days just a glimpse even of the rakes was something like a dream come true. I never knew such people like me would be referred to as RAILFANS ahead.

I remember Gondwana, GT, Tamil Nadu, Kerela, LTT bound gorakhpur train, Pushpak, Punjab Mail, Kalka Mail, Lakshdweep, Andaman, Pathankot, Mahakaushal, Dakshin, Bundelkhand were some express trains which were heard of a lot by relatives and in announcements but were always a dream to see them in real. I even many times tried to persuade my parents to show me at least a glimpse of the arrival of some whenever there was an announcement but very few times I got successful in it.

People don't understand that was the excitement, respect and craze for our beloved IRs and then we heard people burning trains pelting stones, loot, crime .It was so disgusting to hear it and still it is.

Oh, the GRAND TRUNK EXPRESS! The Queen of the railways! The 2 night one day travel. From Madras to Delhi.
The whole procedure started with picking up the "concession form" from the school office. Duly filled by the folks, brought back to Base A. Then Base A handed out the letter to the Southern Railways, stating the holder of the form was a native of the station mentioned, and to issue a ticket at a paltry
