Dropshot Fishing Tugela Mouth June 2019

THE FISH ARE WILD, CHECK THE VIDEO ….
There’s no secret, we making it easy for all.
We had a blast yesterday smashing the fish on light tackle (drop shot)
Guys if you have not tried drop shot fishing, you don’t know what you missing out on.
Lionel and I stopped at one of the estuaries up north (tugela) for +-two hours.
The conditions were not favorable as it was an outgoing tide but none the less once we found the pattern, we were on from the word go.
We lost count after 15 and we out fished 9 odd anglers next to us that were using bigger setups with bait vs our light setups with artificial.
We also lost some very big kob, straighten hooks, some that came up and tried to grab hit the smaller fish whilst we were fighting them and also had 2 bite off suspect shad.
NOTE, you can catch using the exact same setups and method along the entire coast of South Africa as Lionel has with great success.
PLEASE we urge all anglers to practice catch and release for the future (all fish was released after a quick snap)
Why fish light and drop shot, well there are many positives;
One can fish the entire day and your arms/wrists don’t take strain.
A small back pack is all you need (light) especially whilst enjoying those long walks in search of fish.
No down time baiting and your partner will love the idea of you not smelling all fishy lol, who knows they might join you on your next trip.
You get to experience an aggressive take/charge and adrenalin rush.
Cost effective once you know what works and is needed.
You can target a variety of species using the same setup and in both fresh and saltwater.
To name a few places one can fish with these setups, dams, harbours, rivers, estuaries, rocky areas, surf, from boats, kayaks, kick boats etc.
To name a few fish that can be targeted with these setups, salmon, Garrick, shad, kingfish, perch, black tail, gunards, grunter, tiger, bass, barbell etc.
The tackle of choice and why
We looked at something that could be used to target a variety of fish in different facets for both fresh and saltwater.
We wanted setups that didn’t break the bank yet offer good quality.
That could be fished with confidence knowing if we hook something decent we can stand a good chance of landing it
Veer Setup
Rod Sensation poweplus finesse 7ft
Reel Epixor 30 reel
Boss Braid finesse 10lb
Elbe Fluro Leader 15lb
McArthy Baits
Lionel
Rod Okuma Altera 8ft
Reel Epixor 50 reel
Boss Braid finesse 20lb
Elbe Fluro Leader 25lb

Another good setup that is cost effective as well to look at is the Okuma Blue Diamond rod and reel range for the above applications.
