Alleged malpractices in conducting NEET exams, cancellation of UGC-NET June 2024 sparked outrage. Meanwhile, the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 came into effect on June 22 amid intensifying rows. The law aims to prevent unfair means in public examinations and common entrance tests held across the country. The Act also prohibits disclosing exam-related confidential info before time, entry of unauthorised people to exam centres to create disruptions. The offences will be punishable with imprisonment between three and five years, and a fine up to Rs 10 lakh. The offences under the new law will also be cognizable, non-bailable, and non-compoundable.
