Same exact model, same exact sound. I will never buy another Seagate drive.

Same model. Mine is 2.5 years old and has failed. I was able to recover some of the data by installing it in an open frame caddy and keeping it cool with an icepack.

why does Seagate still makes harddrives?

This is Seagate Barracuda 14 (Grenada).
Problem usually one of heads degraded/bad. It is manufacture defect of all these models.
If you need repair it : disconnect one bad head in firmware and run factory Self Test.
If you need data: then need replace heads, adjust heads parameters, patch firmware for read only mode and read data.
If you do not care about this hard drive just put it to garbage.

Exaclty the same disk and the fucking same noise, the BIOS don't recognize it anymore, and no solution...

god damn seagate. Same here - mine is still on warranty, but if i want to get my money back i have to return the disk which means i won't be able to attempt hardware repair. After a few hdd failures i believe that manufacturers should be held responsible for data recovery on disks that are still on warranty. I already had a few external disks that i couldn't return because i had to open them to recover data.

Seagate are supposed to be so so good but seriously. One fail after another. Their drives go down like dominoes on a hill lately.

A few Seagate models from around this time, including this one but more famously the ST3000DM001, are known to have issues with head failure. There's not a whole lot you can do about that at home, but at least it's one of the easier things for a data recovery company to fix. Basically, the headstack will need to be replaced. Since this requires opening the HDA, it's very risky and difficult to do at home. If the data isn't too important (not worth the recovery price) and it would just be nice to have it back, you can go ahead and try, just keep in mind that if you mess up it might make it completely unrecoverable.

The 11 chirps and then shutdown are standard failed head / head crash for Seagates. The read/write head and platter surfaces have suffered catastrophic damage. If you open up such a drive, you'll find a scary looking scratched ring on the platter and upon close inspection of the heads you'll find them destroyed or missing. You will probably see black dust or bits of the destroyed heads and platter surface. Unless you have very very important data that you can't live without and are willing to spend a lot of money on profession drive/data recovery, you need to move on and just replace the drive.

Just had both of my (hardware) mirrored ST2000DM001's do this in the same weekend.  Lost a TON of data, mostly VMs.  Uncool Seagate. Very uncool.  Seagate has burned me directly more times than just this.  Drives should last longer than 2 years.  Will not be recommending Seagate to any of my clients ever again, as they've costed us way to much time and money to date.

With all these happenings in common, I think we have enough base to file a class lawsuit against this company.

It because either the heads are physically stuck on the platter, or there is a fault with the board on the bottom on the hdd.
Take it back to the shop and see if you can get it refunded or replaced before you try any DIY stuff.

I didn't knew that it had a firmware upgrade. Mine was working for about 3 years with stock firmware and then just died this last sunday. Lost all my stuff. The issue with my drive is that BIOS won't find the unit properly, also, the SATA devices scanning at the boot takes about 5 minutes with it plugged. Tried a lot of tricks but none of them worked. This is my first Seagate failure since my first PC. I also have another two very old Seagate drives, and they are still ok.

I want to add. these hard drives are just passing the warranty period. I left a commentary message to Seagate Customer Service in the box it offered, but I don't think they really care. My MSI Z87 kept shutting down, and followed by dead video out as soon as warranty lapsed. Just replaced with an Asus mother board. Looks like nothing can last 3-4 years nowadays. Very bad luck for me. All happened one after the other.

I also had a 1TB Seagate Pipeline HD Pro that clicks and spins down, the problem was that the fucking drive was not even a year old yet!

It seems I can join the club too. The HDD wasn't that old (3 years), and suddenly refused to boot or be accessed (i.e. by using a linux boot stick). It wouldn't be such a problem if the HDD warned beforehand that it was about to fail, but no way. No more Seagate for me.

I had exact same problem for a WD 2tb model. SSD is the way to go

Unfortunately, the same thing happened with mine. It failed after just 14 months. I just replaced it with 2 WD RAID drives today. Hopefully, someday, somehow I can get the data off this drive myself.
