My old 2011 2.5 4x2 Hilux is still running good with 500, 000++ km . Heavily used in construction with No engine and suspension issues. Durability, load capacity and availability of parts everywhere in the Philippines makes the Hilux the No1 choice and No1 in sales. My new 1 is the 2020 Hilux Conquest 4x2.

It's marine grade carpet and hence nothing like what you would find in a bathroom. I think it's a fantastic idea especially as you can put all your luggage in their and not worry about sliding around too much

I test drove one and decided to trade my 2020 Ranger Wildtrak for the Rogue. I’m not that into the tech of the new Ranger but the Hilux reliability reputation has won me over

Carpet in the tray is a great idea. Good sound deadening for when things are sliding about 👍🏻

Just picked up my new rouge. For me it’s a big upgrade from my 2019 rouge. Loving the new hilux rouge

In South Africa, we have been treated to a special derivative. Gazoo Racing Sport (GR-S) with 165 KW & 550 NM. The carpeted bakkie tray is a total no for me. It should be rubberized with at least 7mm coating.

Toyota is like Apple, they roll out new features and upgrades slower than competitors, but they do it right, whereas Ford etc rush in and make a lot of changes without properly testing them and then do recalls.

I love the carpet in the tray, I don’t carry anything really abrasive just camping, shopping, fishing gear and the odd Bunnings trip, and I think that is what its designed for, I hope Toyota keep the carpet on next gen

Purchased a new Rogue a couple of weeks back. Very impressed with the enhancements (vs a 2020 Rugged X). Drive is far superior. Biggest surprise was no price increase!

Talked to few people in Australian regional, asked them what ute they prefer, they said no other brands have yet to built like the quality and reliability of a toyota

In terms of interiors Toyota really is one of the most unadventurous car manufacturers out there.

I am a picture framer and love the idea of the carpet in the tub plus the security of the roller top. The wide wheel base would enhance towing of my caravan. I reckon that there could be a Rogue in my future.

Have had one for over 12 months. The Android car play is really good, and the maps and voice command work great. The carpet in the back is really good. It stops all your luggage sliding around, and you take it out when you need to. The push button roller tub cover is very good. The ride is really nice. I prefer to drive it on trips than my merc. Breaking is really good with all-around discs. Fuel efficiency has been 10.3 ltte per 100 combined. On highway ive had it down to 9.8 sitting on 115kph. Beach driving is great with 15psi front 16psi rear. Towing my jayco pop top with it is very easy. With full load in tub and van fully wet and loaded. I was watching a car designer talk the other day on YouTube. He summed it up very well. The simpler the car, the longer it lasts. You don't need the diff lock. Traction control works very well. Put a set of all terrains on it, and it is very good. I dont like the hand brake. It rolls forward a little bit when you come off the brake. You have to be wary of it.

5:13 my 2014 Amarok has a BedRug in the back of it, same with my dad’s 2022 W580 Amarok (both are paired with a canopy). For us it’s mainly because our dog rides in the back of the bed, as well as not scratching the bed. Carpet in a Ute bed isn’t a bad idea, it depends on your use case on whether it’s a good idea or not

Totally agree with you about the carpet. I had the previous model rogue about changed to a rugged x this year. Tub liner in the rugged is so much more practical. Toyota should have fitted the centre led light bar from the rugged onto the rogue, looks like it already has the cutout in the front bumper for it. Excited for the rugged replacement.

They have certainly thrown some mechanical updates at it. Actually I don’t mind that marine carpet in the tray, I put some on top of my spray in bed to stop stuff slipping around, so not as silly as it first looks in my opinion.

That’s a good looking rig with the increased width, front end looks great. A shame the tech is so out dated. Great review as alway Paul.👍
