The Biggest LIE About Colombia

In this video, I go over the biggest misconceptions about Colombia.

Highlights
💃 Colombian cuisine is often judged unfairly by foreigners who expect exotic dishes but fail to appreciate the home-cooked meals or higher-end restaurants.
💰 Colombia is classified as a middle-income economy with rich natural resources, but faces challenges like corruption and a struggling education system.
🚨 Despite safety concerns, Colombia is safer than many U.S. cities, and visitors should be aware of cultural safety practices to avoid risks.
👩‍🦱 Colombian women are more than just beautiful; they are strong, independent, educated, and passionate individuals who offer much more than just their looks.

The real median income in Colombia is much less than mentioned. Only 10% of Colombians earn more than 4 million pesos per month.

I am very impressed by this man's thought provoking insights into life in Colombia. I aprreciate that he is not shilling like most youtubers that promote Colombia.

If you are worried about crime, then you should get out of the US, fast!

I lived in Colombia from 2016 till 2023 (BOG, MDE, CTG, CZU), and this is my reaction to your video:

1) The food is usually bland, no matter if restaurant or home-cooked
2) There is some good food to be found around as well, even Colombian dishes with a little twist or seasoning
3) IT IS A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!!
4) If you're a passport bro, go elsewhere, not that you're not welcome, it's for your safety, heheh
5) It is an amazing place for a family or friend group vacation, full of adventures and beautiful places, but I recommend you speak Spanish, hire a guide or have a Colombian friend that will travel with you
6) Be careful who you talk to, but there are some genuinely nice people, that will try and succeed in making your stay very nice
7) AMAZING PLACE FOR BACKPACKERS
8) Venezolans and Argentianians are usually super nice people
9) I love the region and people around Corozal, Sucre - not much to do for vacation, but it's a beautiful agricultural region full of great ppl (travel on your own judgement, there are both Guerillas and PMs in a few hidden corners, still)
10) Try out all the fruit and veggies you can, so much tastier than anywhere else!

Bogota is a virtual fortress. You won't be committing any crimes there. You've never seen anything like it. There are usually 3-4 armed cops with dogs on most street corners. Add to that there are security guards dispersed throughout every block. They have guns and some of them have dogs as well. Every store has security guards with guns so you won't be shoplifting. Your belongings are always checked as you leave the store. Don't even think about committing a crime in Bogota. Bogota authorities fight crime the right way. None of this calling 911 nonsense and waiting for an hour for cops to arrive. The cops in Bogota are positioned among the people walking the beat as they should be.

Appreciate your videos man. Finally someone not paranoid and being fair and balanced about Columbia. All countries have their own+ /-. Just stay humble and make no dumbs moves/mistakes as you travel and all will be fine people.

I've been there many times. The best Italian food I ever had was in Bogota. That being said, Colombian food generally leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, I freaking hate plantains.

SanBernardino CA. 1 in 77 people are victim of violent crime annually. Give or take. Highest murder rate in California along with Oakland I believe . I don’t go to the barbershop without my gun.

El respeto por nuestro hermosísimo país goes behind the usual narco fantasy: I lovey country 🙏🦋🇨🇴

Is Colombia a good place for single American women to retire if they only have pensions or social security to live on? Are there many American or European expats?
