The same scene occurs in light novel volume 5 and this time they sleep beside each other(when they start dating and visit amane's hometown for the summer). I couldn't read the next volumes as it was too much for me to handle. The narration was enough to make me fluster a lot so I can't imagine how good those scenes would be if it was animated. I just have a random thought. In the European Middle Ages and the Heian period of Japan, sharing a bed for sleeping was not a euphemism for sex and when someone said "sleeping together" it was meant literally. Also it had no romantic connotations. Married couples did sleep together, but sometimes friends did too or even close guests. Kind of like telling stories. That would be something couples and non couples did. So sometimes modern writers trying to say "this historical figure was gay because he shared a bed with a man" were missing the point. Gay people did exist in the past, and William II of England almost certainly was. Of course in modern times, this does usually indicate a crush, but I mean Shiina cooking for him probably gave that away.
