We've been impressed with Oculus Rift from the start, and have been following the VR headset closely ever since. The developer edition has been in the hands of devs for a couple months now, and while Palmer Luckey and Nate Mitchell have certainly received rave reviews of the headset from many, they've also heard lots of feedback about ways to improve it. The number one request from users and devs? A higher-resolution screen than the 1,280 x 800 panel in the dev device. Well, after months of research and tinkering to find the right hardware combination, team Oculus is finally ready to show off a Rift with a 1,080 x 1920 display, and we got to demo the thing.

Engadget provides the web's best consumer electronics & gadgets coverage. It isn't gone entirely (how can it be?) but it is significantly reduced to the point that Oculus is comfortable saying that the effect has been eliminated. The screen door effect never had anything to do with resolution, it's a matter of fill factor; the space between sub-pixels. The current screen apparently has a much better fill factor than the previous, but I'm certain there is still some space between pixels. Future screens might do even better.

The Cloud isn't just a random term anymore. There are so many articles and devs talking about how it can/is being used, that it is a valid feature of the X1. (Sony and Nintendo technically can do it, but not on nearly the same scale. Geikai is also just for streaming.)

The Respawn dev's article, for example, on cloud and it's benefits for gamers.

they should have this but like it would connect to your controllor and you dont need a consal so like if you go on a trip or somthing ur not looking at a lil screen with light shining to where you cant see your screen soo ya that would be cool

In the olden days, even if they lost their product key and their disc, it was a simple process of Keyfinder > All-purpose .iso > Reinstall. All without requiring internet or forgotten log-ins.

It is 3d, but 3d is not the main selling point or the main feature.

The main features are:
- The wide field of view, which creates the feeling that you are in the game because you can't see the edges of the screen. The game surrounds you, like The Matrix.
- The low latency head tracking. Without this the Rift would just be a screen attached to your face. The head tracking is what allows you to look around the game world by moving your head naturally, instead of having to use mouse or gamepad

What I was trying to say is let them take all the time they need to make it superb. Saying that they should take 2 more years to perfect it was just a wild guess. The thing is that I don't believe that until now there was much of a demand for creating such small screens with such high resolutions and on top of that with the best dot pitch possible so this might take some time to achieve and prepare for mass production at the cheapest price possible + To perfect other aspects of the Rift

Actually the oculus rift plugs directly into any HDMI port with its converter box and it does NOT decrease preformence

No, at the moment it is only a prototype, they "might" be doing another run of 1080p dev kits, but properly not. If you ordered a dev kit, you will be getting the normal dev kit.

I was expecting dual 1080 but hey. Put that 1080 thing on sale and I'm in.

No mention to positional tracking. Probably they're struggling with that issue.

It's not the 'resolution' that governs this, it's the pixel density.. meaning the more pixels you can cram into an area the better as this is reducing the size of the individual pixel and the space between them. However, that being said, a 'by product' of a higher pixel density is that the resolution is sometimes increased.

actually the CEO was asked what his thoughts on the rift were, and he said he loved it and that they have a couple of dev kits of their own, and when he was asked if ps4 will support it he simply said "no comment" with a *big smile*
